1. Introduction

Yaven ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Yaven mobile application (the "App") and the website at yaven.me (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your personal information when you use our services.

By using Yaven, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: Name, email address, profile photo (when you sign up via Google Sign-In or email/password through Firebase Authentication).
  • Relationship data: People profiles, contact details, birthdays, preferences, notes, and other relationship information you add to the app.
  • Conversations: Messages and interactions with the AI assistant, including text, voice transcriptions, and attachments (photos, documents).
  • Calendar data: Events, reminders, and to-do items you create or sync from Google Calendar.
  • User-generated content: Greeting cards, drawings, shared cards, trips, lists, notes, memories, and other content you create within the app — all indexed in your personal Library.
  • Attachments: Photos, documents (PDF), and other files you attach to assistant messages or cards. Attachments are stored on our servers and processed by AI to extract relevant information.
  • Purchase information: Subscription and in-app purchase records (processed through Google Play billing), and any promo codes you redeem.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers.
  • Usage data: App usage patterns, feature interactions, crash reports, and performance data.
  • Push notification tokens: To deliver notifications to your device.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Google Sign-In: Basic profile information (name, email, profile photo) when you authenticate via Google.
  • Phone contacts: If you choose to import contacts, we access contact names, phone numbers, and email addresses from your device (with your explicit permission).
  • Google Calendar: Calendar events when you enable bidirectional sync (with your explicit permission).

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Yaven app and its features
  • To power AI-driven features including the chat assistant, relationship insights, greeting card generation, and smart reminders
  • To process your conversations through AI models (OpenAI) to generate responses and perform actions
  • To sync your calendar and deliver push notifications
  • To process subscriptions and in-app purchases
  • To send service-related communications (not marketing, unless you opt in)
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security issues
  • To comply with legal obligations

4. AI Processing & Third-Party AI Services

Yaven uses OpenAI's API to power AI features. When you interact with the AI assistant, your messages and relevant context (such as relationship data you've provided) are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy. As of our API usage terms, OpenAI does not use data submitted via the API to train their models.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers using MongoDB with encryption at rest. We use Firebase Authentication for secure user authentication. All data transmission between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. We implement industry-standard security practices to protect your personal information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service providers: OpenAI (AI processing), Google Cloud/Firebase (authentication, cloud messaging), MongoDB Atlas (data storage), DigitalOcean (hosting).
  • Shared Spaces participants: When you create shared cards or spaces, the shared content is visible to invited participants.
  • Legal requirements: When required by law, legal process, or government request.

7. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access & Export: You can view all your data within the app at any time.
  • Correction: You can edit your personal information and relationship data directly in the app.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data. See our Account Deletion page for instructions.
  • Permissions: You can revoke app permissions (contacts, microphone, camera, calendar) at any time through your device settings.
  • Notifications: You can disable push notifications through your device settings.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete all your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

Yaven is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. 10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in countries other than your country of residence. By using Yaven, you consent to the transfer of your data to these countries, which may have different data protection laws.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Yaven after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
